What are tile backing boards?
Tile backer boards are used as a substrate on which to install tiles, flooring and countertop materials. They are becoming increasingly common as they help to increase the speed at which installation can take place, as well as making the finish neater and more uniform.
A tile backing board is used instead of more traditionally used plywood and other wood substrates. Unlike plywood, tile backer boards do not warp or buckle, and are harder and flatter, making them strong and durable.
As well as the strength tile backer boards are known for, they also provide a resistance to moisture that is unachievable with other materials. Tile backer boards are made from materials that provide a high level of resistance to moisture making them perfect for use in bathrooms and kitchens.
Tile backing boards also help to remove the need for insulation and plasterboard to also be fixed to the wall. Tile backing boards are pre-formed and also have insulating properties, which also helps to reduce installation time.
