Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles boast versatility when it comes to styles, finishes and shapes. One of the most common tiles found in homes up and down the UK, it’s no surprise that ceramic tiles are so popular. Striking the perfect balance of looks and practicality, ceramic tiles are dense and durable and suit various applications, from gloss kitchen splashbacks with herringbone patterns to marble effect tiles on wet room walls.

Here at Tile Superstore, there’s no end to the selection of ceramic tiles. Decorated ceramics in Moroccan or classic Victorian patterns sit alongside wood effect, brick-shaped metro tiles and stone effect tiles. Make an impact with something bold and creative in the kitchen, or create a centrepiece in your living room, bedroom or hallway with a statement tile adorning the walls.

Ceramic tiles require minimal maintenance with occasional cleaning and re-sealing/treating, and small scratches and abrasions can often be buffed out. Ceramic tiles also boast heat resistance, making them compatible with fireplaces and wood burners with heat-resistant adhesive and grout. Why not try a textured slate-effect tile behind a fireplace or wood burner for the rugged ‘woodland cabin’ effect?

Can you use ceramic tiles on floors?

Injecting personality and taste is easy with ceramic tiles but these tiles aren’t recommended for this on floors in bathrooms because they’re not as resistant to slip as other floor tiles. It could be more prudent to use porcelain tiles here. For areas like the kitchen or hallway though, ceramic tiles are hard to break and only a severe impact is going to crack these tiles so they’re fine for use.

Ceramic tiles on floors offer homeowners unlimited amounts of expression as combinations of tiles and the choice of hundreds of laying patterns (here’s some of the most popular) leave possibilities wide open!

How do you maintain ceramic tiles?

Maintenance of ceramic tiles is very low and they will only require the occasional mop. Most manufacturers give a recommendation of when ceramic tiles should be re-sealed or re-treated (if your chosen tiles need to be) and this is typically only every 3 to 4 years. It’s possible to buff out small scratches in the surface of ceramic tiles too because the glaze sits on top of a ceramic base, meaning the entire tile isn’t compromised.

Can I use ceramic tiles for a fireplace or around a wood burner?

Ceramic tiles boast heat resistance, as do porcelain tiles and a couple of others, so we’ve put together a simple guide on what you can and can’t use for fireplaces or around wood burners. A tile design around a wood burner can be the stunning finishing touch you’re after! Don’t forget to use heat-resistant adhesive and grout too. Try a textured slate-effect tile behind a fireplace or wood burner for the rugged ‘woodland cabin’ effect that’s trending lately.
